Pahokee is a small city in western Palm Beach County, located on the southeastern shore of Lake Okeechobee. Incorporated in 1922, its name means "grassy waters" in the Creek language. The surrounding area is known for its rich, dark soil, locally called "the muck," which supports sugar cane and other crops.

Life in Pahokee centers on the lake and the land. The Pahokee Marina and Campground offers lakeside RV and tent sites, fishing access and a starting point for the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail, which runs along the top of the lake's dike. The city has a close-knit, small-town feel, and West Palm Beach is about an hour's drive east. Housing consists mainly of single-family homes.
