Miami Lakes is a town in northwest Miami-Dade County, about 15 miles northwest of downtown Miami. It is bordered by Hialeah to the south and west and Miami Gardens to the east. Developed by the Graham family beginning in 1962 and incorporated in 2000, it is known as a master-planned community.
The original section, east of the Palmetto Expressway, was designed with curving, tree-shaded streets and winding lakes, a contrast to the straight grid found in much of the county. Main Street serves as the town center, with shops, restaurants and community events, and the town maintains a large network of parks, mini parks, greenways and trails, including Miami Lakes Optimist Park and Royal Oaks Park. Housing includes single-family homes, many on the lakes, along with townhomes and condominiums.
