Lighthouse Point is known as a boating community. Much of the city was built along canals dug during the 1950s and 1960s, creating a large amount of waterfront housing. Through the nearby Hillsboro Inlet, boaters have quick access to the Atlantic, and the Bahamas are within reach on a calm day. Real estate is centered on single-family homes, many on the water with private docks, along with some condos and townhomes.
