Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a small beach town in Broward County, located on a narrow barrier island between Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach. First incorporated in 1927 and reincorporated in 1947, the town centers on the intersection of State Road A1A and Commercial Boulevard, which crosses the Intracoastal Waterway by drawbridge.

The town has a relaxed, walkable feel, with cafes, shops and mid-century modern buildings near the beach. Anglin's Fishing Pier extends into the Atlantic, and a coral reef lies just offshore, which has earned the town recognition as "Florida's Beach Diving Capital." Real estate includes oceanfront and Intracoastal condominiums, townhomes and single-family homes, including canal-front properties in neighborhoods such as Bel Air and Terra Mar Island.
